Thank You for the Music – Our Latest Visit to Mamma Mia! The Party
We recently returned to Mamma Mia! The Party at The O2, London and it was just as magical as we remembered. For one of us it was our first ever visit and we were so impressed by the whole experience.
About the Mamma Mia Experience
The experience begins as you enter ‘Nikos Taverna’ which is set on Skapelos – the Greek Island where Mamma Mia was filmed. With beautiful Greek pink Bougainvillea flowers, olive trees and a working fountain in the centre, the taverna courtyard is the perfect setting to enjoy the spectacular show. You do really feel as though you are entering Greece and they have gone into extreme detail to make the venue look as authentic as possible.
The actual West End style show begins just after the starter, as you meet taverna owner Nikos and his family, throughout the night their story unfolds accompanied by some well-loved songs from Mamma Mia including Waterloo (which the whole audience are encouraged to join in with – lyrics are printed in the menu!), The Winner Takes It All, Honey Honey, and more.
After the show ends the dancefloor comes alive as an ABBA disco takes over.

Highlights from the Evening
One of the first things we noticed was that some of the cast hadn’t changed since our last visit, giving the evening a wonderfully familiar feeling. The level of audience participation was great, we loved joining in with the singing and the use of lyric cards for “Ring Ring”. Even the waiters were part of the show singing and dancing, which really added to the immersive atmosphere.
A Feast to Remember
The food was another highlight, we could not get over the quality and quantity of food available. We were welcomed with a drink on arrival, followed by a delicious Greek sharing experience:
- Mezze breads and dips to start
- Starters: Greek salad and spanakopita
- Mains: Braised lamb stifado and slow-cooked beef, accompanied by garlic roasted baby potatoes, vegetable briam, and red wine jus—all served as a sharing platter per table
- Desserts (poikilia glyko): Orange ravani cake, Greek yoghurt with cherry compote, lemon ouzo curd and cream-filled kokakia, and baklava
- Tea or coffee afterwards
- There’s also an optional cheese board available to purchase
Vegetarian, Vegan and dietary requirements were taken into account and nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff.

The Atmosphere
The atmosphere throughout the whole Taverna was lively, sociable and fun and wherever you are seated, you can be sure of an unforgettable experience. If you’re on the ground floor you will have a more immersive experience with the cast around you, while the tables around the edges give a better overall view of all the singing and dancing.
Overall Impression
We’d definitely recommend visiting, especially as a pair or with a group of friends. The taverna setup really makes you feel like you’ve stepped onto a Greek island, and every member of staff made us feel welcome, nothing was too much trouble, even with some fussy dietary needs!
